1. What is HIFU
HIFU is technology that treats myoma by High Intensity Focused Ultrasound.
Its mechanism is same as making fire by using a magnifying glass. However, it uses ultrasound that is

4. Simple Q&A
(1) Is Anesthesia not necessary for HIFU treatment?
Yes. HIFU treatment doesn’t need the anesthesia. Most of patients can not feel any physical
sensation. In particular case, you may sense numbness in the legs or little hot sensation on
the coccyx and abdomen but it can be directly settled by interactive with medical team.
(2) Does Uterine myoma disappear after HIFU treatment?
No. HIFU treatment doesn’t remove entire Uterin myoma . It necroses Uterine myoma
without surgery in order to reduce Uterine myoma ‘s size upto 10%~30% comparing to
Formal size. This treatment aim to reduce discomfort such as menstrual pain, Menorrhagia,
Abdominal distension and oliguria
(3) Is there any single side effect after HIFU treatment?
Almost in every case, there are no side effects. Even though vaginal discharge or
menstruation cycle may change, it is temporal symptom in particular case that you don’t
have to worry.
